At six in the morning, light slips through the shoji while the streetlights still hum. She crosses the cold tatami, boils water for tea, and walks to the bakery where the woman behind the counter already knows her order.
She has stayed long enough to form a routine, but not long enough to move through it flawlessly. Her bow is still a little too deep. Her Japanese still needs gentle correction. When an older woman smiles and says だいじょうぶ, she believes her.
Nothing dramatic happens. A bicycle bell passes, afternoon light touches a matcha bowl, and shadows move across temple stone. 一期一会 gives those ordinary moments their shape: this meeting, this morning, and this version of the city will not return in exactly the same way.
Kyoto holds her without promising to keep her. By evening, she is no longer trying to make the day stay. She receives it, lets it pass, and learns that acceptance can be another form of love.
朝6時。街灯がまだ消えないうちに、障子越しの光が差し込む。冷えた畳を渡り、お茶のために湯を沸かし、いつもの注文を覚えてくれているパン屋へ歩く。
日課ができるほど長く暮らしている。でも、何もかもを自然にこなせるほどではない。お辞儀はまだ少し深すぎる。日本語も、やさしく直してもらうことがある。年配の女性が微笑んで「だいじょうぶ」と言えば、彼女はその言葉を信じる。
大きな出来事は何も起きない。自転車のベルが通り過ぎ、午後の光が抹茶の茶碗に触れ、寺の石畳を影が移っていく。一期一会という言葉が、ありふれた瞬間に輪郭を与える。この出会い、この朝、この街の姿は、まったく同じ形では戻ってこない。
京都は彼女を受け入れるが、引き留めるとは約束しない。夕方には、彼女ももう一日を留めようとはしていない。受け取り、過ぎていくのを見送る。そして、受け入れることも愛の形になり得ると知る。
