Requiem for a Tuesday

Six in the morning, something knocks like fate. At one in the morning, something behind the milk seems to breathe. In the supermarket, a payment terminal pauses long enough to become a judge. In bed, one more scroll opens another door to the end of the world.

Requiem for a Tuesday gives four ordinary troubles their own gothic ceremony. An alarm, forgotten food, insufficient funds and a restless feed become a visitor, a crypt, Judgment Day and a witches’ gathering. The situations grow absurd; the exhaustion, embarrassment and fear underneath them remain familiar.

The four scenes follow a feeling rather than a clock. Getting up is a small victory. Closing the fridge postpones the problem. Leaving the checkout preserves a little pride. Finally, Tuesday turns into Wednesday, the phone dies, and a bird goes about its morning. The apocalypse loses its audience. The day arrives anyway.

朝六時、運命のような何かがノックする。深夜一時、牛乳の奥にある何かが息をしている気がする。スーパーでは、決済端末の長い間が審判に変わる。ベッドの中では、あと一度だけのスクロールが、世界の終わりへ続く扉を開く。

Requiem for a Tuesdayは、ありふれた四つの困りごとに、それぞれゴシックな儀式を与える。目覚まし、忘れた食べ物、残高不足、落ち着かない情報の流れ。それらは訪問者、地下墓所、最後の審判、魔女たちの集会になる。場面は大げさになっても、その下にある疲れ、気まずさ、恐れには覚えがある。

四つの場面をつなぐのは時刻よりも感情だ。起き上がることは小さな勝利。冷蔵庫を閉めれば、問題は先送りになる。レジから離れても、少しの誇りは残る。やがて火曜日は水曜日になり、スマートフォンの電池が切れ、鳥はいつもの朝を過ごす。世界の終わりを見る人はいなくなる。それでも、一日は始まる。
