Four Days

Four days. Not a week or a month. Just four ordinary days close enough to notice.

Four Days follows a working woman through Monday's fluorescent survival, a rainy work-from-home day, a feverish day when time stops behaving properly, and a Saturday that becomes good without anything dramatic happening.

Across every track, 我挺好的 — I'm doing fine — changes its meaning. At work, it is a ritual everyone knows how to perform. In the rain, it becomes the truth. During illness, it is a small, friendly lie. By Saturday, the words land cleanly, with nothing left to prove.

This is not a story about four extraordinary days. It is about what happens when someone pays attention to ordinary ones: coffee with no taste, rain on a window, a blanket becoming a whole country, sunlight on a park bench.

Some days you fake it. Some days you mean it. Sometimes the difference only becomes clear later.

Its companion EP, Late Notice, carries the same phrase into another life and another stage of adulthood. The narrators are different. The question remains: when we say we are fine, what work are those words doing today?

四日分の時間。一週間でも、ひと月でもない。違いに気づけるほど近くに並んだ、ごく普通の四日分。

『Four Days』が追うのは、働くひとりの女性だ。蛍光灯の下をどうにか切り抜ける月曜日、雨の在宅勤務日、熱で時間の感覚が崩れる一日、そして、何も劇的なことが起こらないまま「いい日」になる土曜日。

曲を追うごとに、我挺好的――「大丈夫、元気にしてる」――の意味が変わっていく。職場では、誰もが身につけている受け答え。雨の日には本音になり、休む日には自分に寄り添う小さくやさしい嘘になる。土曜日には、何かを証明する必要もなく、その言葉がすっと本当になる。

これは、特別な四日間の物語ではない。味のしないコーヒー、窓を打つ雨、ひとつの国になる毛布、公園のベンチに差す陽射し。ありふれた日々に目を向けたとき、何が見えてくるのかを描いている。

うまく装う日も、本当にそう思える日もある。その違いに気づくのは、少しあとかもしれない。

対になるEP『Late Notice』は、同じ言葉を別の人生、人生の別の段階へ引き継ぐ。語り手は別人だ。それでも問いは残る。私たちが「大丈夫」と言うとき、その言葉は今日、何のために使われているのだろう。
