Some songs begin as plans. 8-bit Merdeka escaped from another experiment.
While I was building Rumah.exe, I wondered what would happen if its joyful game-world sound stepped outside the EP and became its own Merdeka celebration. What began as a side idea became a companion single: bright chiptune energy, a sweet kawaii voice, and a sincere sense of belonging.
I wanted the song to feel proud without turning into a solemn speech. Its world stays close to everyday warmth: a clear morning, Jalur Gemilang overhead, villages and cities sharing one rhythm, and many peoples and languages forming one family. The bridge looks towards the next generation before arriving at the line that holds everything together: Tanah ini rumah kita—this land is our home.
The cover keeps that spirit playful. A little handheld console floats against a warm glow, with pixel fireworks bursting on its screen. The celebration feels colourful, communal, and ready to play.
8-bit Merdeka is a small love letter that grew beyond the experiment that started it: not a salute from a distance, but a celebration meant to be shared. Selamat Hari Merdeka.
計画から始まる曲もある。『8-bit Merdeka』は、別の実験から飛び出してきた。
『Rumah.exe』を作っているとき、僕は、その楽しげなゲーム世界の音がEPを飛び出し、それ自体でMerdeka（ムルデカ）を祝う曲になったらどうなるだろう、と考えた。小さな寄り道は、明るいチップチューンのエネルギー、甘くかわいらしい歌声、そして「ここが自分の居場所だ」という素直な思いを持つスピンオフ・シングルへ育っていった。
誇りをまっすぐに伝えながら、厳かな演説のようにはしたくなかった。そこで描いたのは、日常のすぐそばにある温かさだ。晴れた朝、頭上に翻るマレーシア国旗Jalur Gemilang、ひとつのリズムを分かち合う村と街、そして多様な民族と言葉が形づくるひとつの家族。ブリッジは次の世代へ目を向け、すべてをつなぐ一行へたどり着く。Tanah ini rumah kita――この土地は、私たちの家。
カバーも、その遊び心をそのまま映している。小さな携帯ゲーム機が温かな光の中に浮かび、ピクセルの画面では花火がはじける。カラフルで、みんなと分かち合えて、今にもプレイが始まりそうな祝祭だ。
『8-bit Merdeka』は、生まれた実験の枠を越えて育った小さなラブレターだ。遠くからかしこまって捧げる歌ではなく、輪の中で一緒に分かち合うための祝祭。

A bright morning loads onto the screen. Jalur Gemilang is flying, villages and cities are waking, and one call passes through them all: Merdeka!
The song moves from personal affection to collective belonging. Berbilang bangsa, satu keluarga / Pelbagai bahasa, satu cinta imagines many peoples as one family and many languages carrying one love. The repeated chorus is not a solo declaration; it is something everyone can answer together.
In the final passage, the celebration turns towards those who come next. Hope is planted, hands are joined, and the country becomes more than a symbol: Tanah ini rumah kita—this land is our home.
8-bit Merdeka turns the day into a co-op moment: bright, affectionate, and built around a chorus nobody has to sing alone.
明るい朝が画面にロードされる。マレーシア国旗Jalur Gemilangが空に翻り、村も街も目を覚ます。そこを、ひとつの呼び声が駆け抜けていく。Merdeka!
歌は、ひとりの胸にある愛着から、みんなで分かち合う「ここが自分たちの居場所だ」という思いへ広がっていく。Berbilang bangsa, satu keluarga / Pelbagai bahasa, satu cinta――「多様な民族、ひとつの家族／さまざまな言葉、ひとつの愛」――が描くのは、違いを抱いたまま、ひとつの輪になる姿だ。繰り返されるサビは、ひとりだけの宣言ではない。誰もが一緒に声を返せる呼びかけになっている。

『8-bit Merdeka』は、独立記念日をみんなで参加できる協力プレイの一場面に変える。明るく、愛情に満ち、誰もひとりで歌わなくていいサビを中心にした曲だ。
